Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents Coppélia

Opening day of George Balanchine’s Coppélia at Pacific Northwest Ballet begins on Friday, June 1^st.  Audiences will be mesmerized by the exultant and humorous ballet of the 19^th century. A performance originally done by Arthur St. Léon of Paris in 1870. The production is based on the book by Charles Nuitter. It is a story of a young and spirited women named Swanilda  and her hasty suitor named Franz, who falls for Coppélia, a life-sized doll that Franz is convinced is real. Swanilda uncovers the truth about Coppélia and proceeds to pretend to be Coppélia and deceits both Coppélia’s creator and Franz. The production is exquisitely put together by Italian designer Roberta Guidi di Bagno and a show that will attract the attention of everyone from young children to adults. It will feature music by Léo Delibes and is choreographed by Alexandra Danilova and George Balanchine.

The Pacific Northwest Ballet will be providing a preview lecture at the Central Seattle Public Library from noon to 1pm on Tuesday May 29, 2012. An informational address will be given by Education Programs Manager Doug Fullington that will include film excerpts. Admission to this event is completely free.
