The Fremont Fair
It’s that time of year again! The award-winning Fremont Fair returns to Seattle June 16th and 17th!
Since its founding in 1972, the Fremont Fair has traditionally been held mid-June to coincide with the Summer Solstice, marking the beginning of the Summer season and celebrate this fun, quirky neighborhood of Seattle. In addition to the usual street vendors and food carts, this year the Fair is hosting a special Friday night Pre-Party on the 15th. Main Stage Beer Garden and the Redhook Main Stage will be open for people to come sip on their favorite brews and listen to live music.
Over the course of the weekend, the fair will draw more than 100,000 people to shop, eat, drink, and take part in a variety of activities. Artistic highlights include craft and art booths, street performers, local bands, wacky decorated art cars, and more. The Fair is also known for bringing in an eclectic group of food vendors that represent a multitude of cultures and tastes. Other special events include the 24th Annual Fremont Solstice Parade (Saturday), the Fremont Fair Dog Parade (Sunday), and Planet Earth’s Yoga Solstice practice (Sunday). No doubt Fremont’s official motto “Delibertus Quirkus” – Freedom to be Peculiar – will be employed all weekend long!
All proceeds for the Fair go towards a number of non-profits in the area, including Fremont Chamber of Commerce and Solid Ground, a local poverty-focused non-profit who originated and produced the Fair for nearly 40 years. In 2011 the Fair was recognized for it’s charity, popularity and influence, and was awarded the “Best of Seattle” badge by Seattle Weekly.
